Palestine Protest: Pro-Palestinian Protesters Arrested New Orleans Jackson Square

As Palestine Protest erupted, The NOPD reported a minimum of ten arrests, with four officers sustaining injuries.

Palestine Protest: Palestinian supporters set up tents in New Orleans Jackson Square

Around three dozen demonstrators supporting the Palestinian cause accumulated at Jackson Square on Sunday evening. They decorated the range with signs, Palestinian banners, and around 10 green tents situated in the garden encompassing the Andrew Jackson statue.

During the gathering, one lady burned incense while others locked in in moving and shared nourishment. The signs carried different messages, pushing for a ceasefire and Palestinian opportunity, whereas a few focused on oil companies and the Jazz Fest occasion.

New Orleans police arrived at the peaceful protest around 5 p.m., watching from the sidewalk encompassing the statue inside Jackson Square`s gates. While setting up tents is prohibited in the square, it’s unclear if the NOPD planned to remove them.

By 5:30 p.m., four officers were present, and additional police arrived at 7:30 p.m. Demonstrators were arrested as they refused to leave after the park’s 7 p.m. closing time.

Approximately two dozen protesters established around ten tents within the square. The NOPD reported at least ten arrests and four officers injured.

As officers closed the park, nonconformists shifted their demonstration to the exterior St. Louis Cathedral. By 8:15 p.m., the demonstrators had scattered or been arrested.

Efforts were underway to determine the organizing entity behind the protest.
